12/17/2018 0 Comments Week of December 17-21Dear families, It is hard to believe we have already completed the first half of the year. Witnessing the academic and social growth of the children has been extremely rewarding. We should all be proud of the effort our class has put forth. I am grateful to have such an engaged and supportive parent group. Have a lovely and safe holiday break! Happy New Year to all. Seema Curriculum Highlights Mathematics
-Comparing numbers 0-20 -Finding the difference between the numbers -Practicing the terms- greater than, fewer, difference between, -Using a place value chart with base ten cubes -Completing number patterns (2,4,6... and 12, 9, 6, 3) -Chapter review and test Reading -Click, Clack, Moo Cows that Type by Doreen Cronin- A comical story of the barn animals that are negotiating with Farmer Brown for electric blankets. The animals band together and decide to go on strike. We discussed the important events of the story and worked on predicting future events in the plot. -Dolphins in the Sand by Jim Arnosky- discussing the problem and solution within the story. -Dividing two syllable words (with a magic e- cup/cake) -Practicing to read words with short vowels and magic e -Sight words- two, come, some Writing -Reflecting- writing about our favorite Act of Giving -Writer's Workshop- Free choices such as Cinquain Poems, Letters to friends or "How to..." instructions. -Journal entries-sharing our holiday traditions -Discussing our writing goals for the first half of the year. We use the five w's to incorporate detail and important story details. Social Studies -Exchanging books with our classmates- -Sharing and discussing our selected books -Cooperative board games with our classmates (Puzzles, Quirkle and Hedbands) -Rehearsals for Winterfest performance
