2/20/2019 0 Comments Feb 18-22Dear families, One Hundred days of school completed! Can you believe it? While counting down, we having been preparing for the big day. First grade has been practicing to numbers 0-100 using tally marks, grids, puzzles, and counting by 2's, 5's and 10's, On Friday, we worked together to make our special trail mix of 100 items and created gumball machines with...guess how many.... candies. We enjoyed celebratory games and special activities. I look forward to our next major team projects. Bookworm and Authors' Celebration are right around the corner! I am so proud of their accomplishments and their motivation! Keep up the great work. Have a great weekend. Seema 100th Day Poem We've been learning for a while In fact, 100 days! We can spell, read, and write We can count in many ways. We've had fun and made good friends. But it isn't over yet. Let's keep going, going, going and see how smart we can get! -Chapter 11- Picture graphs -Collecting and organizing data -Drawing picture and bar graphs -Understanding and comparing the data -Learning to use tally marks Reading -Goldilocks and the Three Bears retold by Jan Brett -The Big Wolf and the Little Wolf by Nadine Brun Cosme- A touching story about a Big wolf who has grown accustomed to his solitary lifestyle and routines. Then, he is joined by the little wolf. Initially, the big wolf is cautious about this new visitor. Eventually, he grows a fond of his new friend and realizes he enjoys the little wolf's companionship. This is a wonderful story of friendship. -Reading Stamina- independent reading for 18 minutes -Time for Kids- To the Moon Writing -Creating a character and setting for a new story -Developing plot conflict and solution Each student included three events that will occur to resolve the problem. -Practicing the doubling rule with suffixes -ing and ed -Learning when to use the spelling rule tch or ch (catch, bench) Social Studies -Celebrating the 100th day of school -Rolling 100- Partner game -Painting gumballs for our art project -Counting 100 snack items for our classroom trail mix -Reassembling our 100th day puzzle -Building with 100 plastic cups!
